Henkel, Augusta Wilhelmina (25 July 1875 - 6 June 1957)

Mrs. Augusta Wilhemina Henkel, a former resident of Colby, died at San Diego, Calif., Thursday, June 6, at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 12 days. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Colby Methodist church, Rev. Roger B. Knutsen officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Pall bearers were Eugene Podevels, Bill Fuhrman, Otto Brehm, Willard Becherer, Marc Foster, Ed Allmann.

Mrs. Henkel was born in Settin, Germany, on July 25, 1875, and came to the United States at the age of six years with her parents. They settled in Marathon county, and, in 1891, she married Gustav Henkel in Colby, who preceded her in death in June, 1948. After living in Colby, Wisconsin for 43 years, Mrs. Henkel moved to Stevens Point in 1944 where she resided for 10 years. In 1954, she moved to San Diego, Calif., and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. R. J. Arts. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church. She was well known for her kindly disposition and a person who had a friendly smile for everyone.

Surviving are four sons, Wallace of New York, Robert of La Jolla, Calif., Jack of Yreka, Calif., and George of Sidney, Mont.; five daughters, Mrs. R. T. Elkins of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. A. S. Phipps of Ironwood, Mich., Mrs. A. A. Johnson of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. F. H. Hochmuth of Pelican Lake, Wis., and Mrs. R. J. Arts of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Lena Podevels of Colby; nine grand children; 21 great grand children. Four children preceded her in death.

Out of town relatives here for the funeral were Robert S. Henkel of La Jolla, Calif., Mrs. Russell Arts of San Diego, Calif., Wm. C. Henkel of Lyndhurst, N.J., Wally C. Henkel of Sidney, Mont., Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Elkins of St. Louis, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Alfred S. Phipps of Ironwood, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. William T. Terrill of Menomonie, Mrs. Regina DuPuy of Stevens Point, Phyllis Schultz of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Herb Uruk of Waupaca, Mrs. Caroline Fuhrman of Fenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Akeson of Eau Claire and nieces and nephews of surrounding cities.
