Mother of Colby Citizen Dies at New Holstein

Funeral services were conducted Monday, October 14, for Mrs. Cecilia Aggen of New Holstein, age 88, pioneer resident of the New Holstein area, who passed away after a lingering illness. Last rites were held at the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church at New Holstein with Rev. A. Geo. Schmidt, a former pastor of that church, officiating.

She was born in the town of New Holstein, Calumet county, March 25, 1869, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Lau, and attended the district school. On June 8, 1888, she was married at New Holstein to William Thede and the couple made their home at Cavalier, N.D., for several years. When Mr. Thede died, she returned to New Holstein.

On Oct. 12, 1920, she was united in marriage to Simon Aggen at New Holstein. He died in 1926.

Survivors are four sons, Edmund Thede of Colby, Alwan Thede of Olympia, Wash., John Thede of Libby, Mont., and William Thede of New Holstein; a daughter, Mrs. Delbert (Dora) Jochimsen of New Holstein; 21 grand children and 17 great grand children. Mrs. Aggen was the last of a family of eight children, having been preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.

Edmund Thede of Colby and Nyle Thede of Owen attended funeral services for the former’s mother, Mrs. Cecilia Aggen, age 88, at New Holstein, October 14.
