Wendt, Charles H. #2 (2 AUG 1872 - 29 JUN 1947)

Relatives and friends were greatly shocked to hear of the sudden death of Mr. Charles Wendt which occurred at his home on Sunday morning at seven o’clock, a short time upon arising. Death was due to heart attack. He had apparently been in good health.

Mr. Wendt was born in Allegan, Mich., Aug. 2, 1872. At the age of eleven he came to this community (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) with his parents and has lived in this vicinity all his life.

He was married to Emma Rusch on Aug. 8, 1899. Shortly after their marriage they moved to an uncleared 80 acres which they cleared and made into a modern farm.

He is survived by his wife, Emma, one son and four daughters, namely (Elsie) Mrs. Kenneth Nelson of Wis. Rapids; (Ella) Mrs. Otto Severin of Milwaukee; (Minnie) Mrs. Emil Ehlert of Wis. Rapids; George, who resides on the home farm, and (Doris) Mrs. Edwin Schier of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There are 14 grandchildren surviving him.

Also mourning his departure are one sister (Dora) Mrs. William Courter, Withee; and four brothers, William of Owen, John of Longwood, Fred of LaGrande, Oregon, and August of Denver, Colo. Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wendt, a brother David and a sister (Amelia) Mrs. Corliss Colby, Wis.

Funeral services were held at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church on Wednesday afternoon, June 25th, with the Rev. I. T. Droegemueller officiating. The chosen text for the very comforting sermon was the beautiful "23rd Psalm". The soloist Fern Brandt, of Stanley, sang the hymns, "Just As I Am" and "Asleep in Jesus."

The following nephews of the deceased, namely Raymond and Cecil Wendt, Adolph and Edgar Wendt, Bernard Colby and Walter Rusch, carried his body to its final resting place in the Sylvan Cemetery at Reseburg, where it awaits glorious resurrection.
