Franz, Gustav E. (5 Dec. 1861 - 5 Nov. 1958)

Gustav E. Franz died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, Wednesday morning, Nov. 5th, at 5:10 o’clock, at the age of 96 years. The body is lying in state at the Lulloff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, Nov. 7th, in Zion Lutheran church, Rev. William R. Christian officiating and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Mr. Franz was born in Germany on December 5, 1861, and came to this locality in 1889. He was married at Lomira to Theresa Schultz who passed away on November 10, 1952. He engaged in farming and later was a storekeeper. He served as supervisor for several terms in the town of Hull and was an alderman of the third ward of Colby for several terms. He also served Zion Lutheran church a number of years as trustee, president and treasurer. For several years, before he retired, he was employed by the H. H. Motor Co. in which company he also was a stockholder.

Surviving are two sons, Henry and Albert of Colby; one daughter, Mrs. Karl (Minnie) Sabler of Colby; 11 grand children and 30 great grand children. Preceding him in death, besides his wife, were two daughters, Mrs. Al (Meta) Goldamer and Frida who died as a child, and one brother, Albert.

Mr. Franz was well known here, especially by the older people of the community, for his faithful adherence to his duties, honest in all his dealings, and, being of a congenial and friendly disposition, was well liked by all who knew him.
