Kaszubowski, Victor (3 MAR 1924 - 22 JAN 1945))

Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.0 will play solemn, poignant tribute today to the memory of the first of her World War dead to return from foreign battlefields to a final resting place at home.

Village President a. E. Bauer has asked that all business places in the village be closed from 9 to 10 a.m. today (Thursday) while the funeral procession is passing through Thorp, with the body of Pfc. Victory Kaszubowski.

Kaszubowski was dilled in action in Belgium on Jan. 22, 1945. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Kaszubowski of the Town of Taft (Taylor Co.).

His body, first of the overseas dead to reach Thorp under the final burial program, arrived at the Soo Line railroad station at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Members of the Cecil Tormey Post of the American Legion were at the station when the casket, accompanied by an Army guard of honor, arrived.

The casket was taken to the Thorp Funeral Home to remain there until today at 9 a.m. when it will proceed to Lublin, followed by services at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The rev. J. Palaszewski will officiated and burial will take place in the St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.

Military rites for Kaszubowski will be held by the Thorp post and members of the Medford post and posts throughout Clark County will be in attendance.

Victor Kaszubowski was born on March 3, 1924 in the Town of Taft, where he was brought up on his parent’s farm and attended the local grammar school. He was inducted into the service at Fort Sheridan on March 22, 1944 and received his basic training at Camp Robinson, Ark. During the summer of 1944 he was sent to Ft. Meade, Maryland from where he left for overseas and landed in France. He saw action in Holland, Belgium and Germany, where he fought with the first Army, 7th Armored Division

Pfc. Kaszubowski was awarded the Infantry Combat Badge for Bravery exhibited during the Belgian bulge, Dec. 16, 1944. He served as Runner for Lieut. Eugene Corbin.

He is sadly missed by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Kaszubowski, four brothers, Alex, Teddy, Stanley and Edwin, his sister, Mrs. Walter Hryniewicki.
