Goetz, Phillip (9 FEB 1845 - 14 JAN 1944)

Funeral services were conducted at 9 o’clock Monday morning for Phillip Goetz at St. Anthony’s Catholic church, the Rev. Aloys Zinthefer officiating.

Mr. Goetz had been in fairly good health until a few weeks ago. His death last Friday afternoon was attributed to old age complications

The son of George and Elizabeth Goetz, he was born in Bavaria, Germany, on Feb. 9, 1845. He had nearly reached the age of 99 years. He fought for nine months in the war between Germany and France.

He was married to Barbara Regar in 1869. For 15 years he farmed in Bavaria. In 1886 they came to America and settled in Jefferson for two years, after which they came to Clark county, in the town of York, where he lived for 56 years on a small farm. His wife preceded him in death 19 years ago, when his daughter, Anna, came to live with him.

Five children were born to this union: Mrs. Barbara Hoeser of the town of York, John Goetz, also of the town of York, Joe Goetz of Beaver Dam, a twin, Teresa, who preceded him in death 39 years ago, and Anna Goetz, at home. There are also 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Seven great-grandsons are in the service.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mrs. V. E. Daugherty and daughter, Barbara of Pine River, Minn.; Miss Sophie Hoeser of Harlem, Mont.; Mrs. Tress Stephens of Circle, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fenner of Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoeser and son and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Seidelmann of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. John Walter of Granton; and Joe Schecklman and son of Longwood.

Pallbearers were Joe Schmidt, John Schmidt, Herman Magadanz, Bonnie Wehe, Joe Walter and Bernard Portz.

The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the relatives in their bereavement.
