Peterson, Lillian Adelle (Marriage - 29 June 1937)

The Melby Lutheran Church of Cashton, was the setting for the wedding, June 29th, of Miss Lillian Adelle Peterson, who was a member of the Abbotsford faculty, to Paul Halverson. At the four o’clock ceremony, Miss Peterson was attended by her sister, Mrs. T. F. Boles. The bride’s brother, Milford Peterson, was Mr. Halverson’s best man. Rev. Alfred T. Nelson officiated at the double ring ceremony.

The bride wore a gown of white silk net over satin made with a high Elizabethan collar, ruffled puffed sleeves. A tulle veil fell from a halo head dress of net adorned with a cluster of orange blossoms. The bride wore long lace mitts and carried a shower bouquet of Johanna Hill roses, mist on ferns tied with satin ribbons. Her only jewelry was a three strand necklace of pearls, a gift of the groom.

The matron of honor, Mrs. Boles, wore shell pink lace and net over taffeta, a blue net hat and blue gloves. She carried a bouquet of Talisman roses, delphiniums, and gladioli.

The six bridesmaids were dressed in gowns of point d’sprit over taffeta in pastel shades. They carried colonial bouquets of mixed flowers on white lace frills with streamers of satin ribbons to match the gowns.

The two junior bridesmaids, Miss Dorothy Anderson and Miss Marion Homstad, both of Cashton, wore coral and blue. The other bridesmaids, Miss Ruth Oligney of Marshfield in peach, Mrs. A. J. Folstad of Abbotsford in orchid, Mrs. Milford Peterson of Galesville in yellow Miss Alva Flugstad of Westby in Nile green, completed the colorful group of bride’s attendants.

The ushers were: Palmer Peterson and Clifton Johnson, Cashton; Burton Flugstad, Westby; Andrew Folstad, Abbotsford; Theodore Bolles, West Salem; Edward Nelson, La Crosse.

Among the musical numbers during the wedding ceremony were "Because" sung by Burton Flugstad; "Schubert’s Serenade" sung by Miss Ruth Smith, accompanied by Mrs. A. J. Folstad; and "At Dawning" by Miss Sylvia Dunnum, Mrs. H. Tyrand and Miss Esther Nelson.

Immediately after the marriage a reception was held in the church parlors during which time a program of music and toasts was given.

Vocal selections "My Task" and "God Touched the Rose" by S. J. Paynter accompanied by Mrs. S. J. Paynter; "I Love You Truly" by girls trio; and "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life" by Miss Ruth Smith, were sung. Violin music was played during the meal.

After the wedding supper the guests were invited to the home of the bride’s parents where the bride and groom served wedding cake and coffee. There were 136 guests.

Those present from Abbotsford were Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Paynter, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Folstad and Miss Ruth Smith.

The bride and groom left on a trip through Eastern Wisconsin, Michigan and Canada and will be at home to their friends after August first at Cashton where the groom is the manager of a Gamble store.
