Schmitt, Alphonse J. (11 Sept. 1889 - 3 Feb. 1959)

Alphonse J. Schmitt, a life-time resident of the town of Hull, died at his home Tuesday evening of a heart ailment at the age of 69 years. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church and burial will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. The body is reposing in the Lulloff Funeral Home.

Mr. Schmitt was born on September 11, 1889, in the town of Hull where he farmed his entire life. He married Gertrude Kaiser at Stratford on June 26, 1917.

Mr. Schmitt is survived by his wife; four sons, Emery Schmitt of Colby, Mary Schmitt of Renton, Washington, Linus and Timothy Schmitt, both at home; nine daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Rita) Peterson of Abbotsford, Mrs. Elmer (Maude) Kocian of Colby, Mrs. Harry (Naomi) Kruse of Des Plaines, Ill., Mrs. Fred (Germaine) Redman of Athens, Mrs. Harold (Mary Ann) Scanlon of Evanston, Ill., Mrs. Larence (Virjean) Kunze of Abbotsford, Mrs. Angelo (Blanche) Zera of Lindenwood, Ill., Mrs. LeRoy (Carmen) Fosdick of Garden Grove, Calif., and Mrs. Leo (Mercedes) Lang of Wauzeka; 46 grand children; two sisters, Mrs. Edward Haebig and Mrs. Peter Kaiser of Marshfield.

Funeral services for Alphonse J. Schmitt of the town of Hull, Wisconsin, whose death was chronicled last week, were held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock in St. Mary’s Catholic church. Rev. Roman Kaiser, a nephew of the deceased, officiated and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. The pall bearers, all nephews, were Raymond, Isadore, Hilarion, Victor, Bernard and Richard Schmitt. St. Mary’s eighth grade choir sang accompanied by Sister M. Clementine at the organ.

Out-of-town people attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kruse and family of Des Plaines, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Angelo Zera and family of Lincolnwood, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Scanlon of Evanston, Ill., Mark Schmitt of Renton, Wash., Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lang of Wausea, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Redman and family of Athens, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Peterson and family and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kunze and family of Abbotsford, Wis.
