Nikolay, Jacob (16 Mar. 1891 - 4 Dec. 1937)

Jacob Nikolay, well known resident of Abbotsford, met with a fatal accident while at work logging. The tragedy occurred Saturday afternoon near Bessemer, Mich. Death was instantaneous when he was crushed under a load of rolling logs.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Bernard’s Catholic church. The Rev. C. D. Brady officiated. Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery.

The pallbearers were Frank Beil, Wm. Krueger, Wm. Daley, Ed. Kann of Stratford and Louis Kraus, and August Schermetzler of Rozellville.

Mr. Nikloay was born March 16, 1891, at Seymour, Wis. He was married to Miss Anna Illig at Rozellville on May 6, 1913. The young couple engaged in farming at Rozellville and later near Medford. Eight years ago the family moved to Abbotsford where Mr. Nickolay operated the Abbotsford bowling Alley until it was destroyed by fire. He then operated a tavern in the building now occupied by Ludwig Reichersamer.

The deceased is survived by his widow and nine children: Mrs. Royal Archambo of Abbotsford, Mrs. Eugene Hess of Adell, Alfred of Shawano, Frank, Melvin, Jack, Jim, George and Ann at home. He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Nickolay, Green Bay; Four brothers, Albert and John of Los Angeles, Cal., Frank of Auburndale and Ed of Butte, Mont.; three sisters, Mrs. Arthur Noyes and Miss Eileen Nickolay of Green Bay and Miss Caroline Nikolay of Shawano.

Relatives and friends from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hess and Jimmy Nikolay, Adell; Alfred Nikolay and Miss Caroline Nikolay, Shawano; Mr. and Mrs. John Nikolay, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Noyes, Miss Eileen Nikolay, Green Bay; Jake Nikolay, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Maass and son Norman of Seymour; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nikolay, Auburndale; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Nikolay and Mrs. Alois Nikolay, Marshfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Shamburek, Browntown; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Krieg and daughter, Miss Marie Bangart, Glenbeulah; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Kann, and Mrs. Frank Kohlbeck, Stratford.
