Telford, Robert & Delia (50th - 22 OCT 1949)

Saturday afternoon, Oct. 22nd, 1949 was one of extreme pleasure and satisfaction to Mr. and Mrs. Robert "Bob" Telford, who celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on that day with many old friends and neighbors.

Mr. and Mrs. Telford repeated their vows of fifty years ago in a ceremony performed by Father A.M. Muckerheide at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Saturday morning, in the presence of their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their relatives and friends.

About one hundred persons attended the festivities that followed, which included dinner at the city hall. The tables for the Golden Wedding Anniversary were beautifully adorned with two wedding cakes presented to the celebrants, one by Mrs. Emma Wendt of Wis. Rapids and the other by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Vilas Telford. The tables were further decorated with center pieces of fifty-year emblems, gold bells and bouquets of yellow mums with candles and baby mums completing the festive trim of the occasion.

Robert J. Telford and Miss Delia Asselin were residents of this community (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) in the early days. They were married in Thorp on Oct. 22, 1899. They spent thirty-eight years on the farm in Reseburg, which they sold six years ago and moved to the city of Thorp. They have three sons, George residing in Owen, Raymond at Lublin and Vilas at Thorp.

The afternoon was pleasantly spent in visiting with the many friends who called and lunch and refreshments were served. May a "yarn" was spun by the old timers and especially by "Bob", who enjoys relating experiences dating back to the 80’s and 90’s, when he spent 21 winters in the backwoods and twelve summers running logs on the Chippewa and Eau Claire rivers. He spoke of his prowess as a woodsman and his success in clearing timber off two eighty-acre tracts of land in the town of Reseburg.

Many joined in extending congratulations to the Telfords, who are enjoying fairly good health in their advanced age and after fifty years of many trials and joys.

The happy couple were the recipients of a sum of money and various valuable and useful gifts and cards from friends far and near.

Those who came from out of town to attend the memorable event were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Wendt and two children, Mrs. Emma Wendt, of Wis. Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson and son Craig of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Asselin and son Buddy of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Tibbert of Withee; Mr. and Mrs. Warren Uoker and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Uoker of Pearl City, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Lauer and Mrs. Otto Berg, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wendt, Mr. and Mrs. Will Wendt, Owen, Wis.; Mrs. M. Awrice Anderson, Appleton, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Shell, Marshfield, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. John Wendt, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Wendt, Mr. and Mrs. George Telford, of Owen, Wis.; R. Telford and family, Lublin; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wittek and son of Clark.
