Smith, Mrs. James (1908? - 17? MAY 1944)

Mrs. James Smith, 35, of the town of Beaver died at Luther hospital in Eau Claire last Wednesday night, after an illness of five months.

She was born at Verona, Miss., and was formerly a resident of Eau Claire. Before moving to Beaver, Mrs. Smith also lived at Scranton, Ia., and at Owen. She is survived by her husband and three daughters, Joan, 11, Lavade, 9, and Janice Kay, 6, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Oberbillig, of Eau Claire; a brother, Pvt. Lester Oberbillig, of Camp Plauche, New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Donald Babington of the town of Union, Eau Claire county and Mrs. Lyle Shepler of Eau Claire.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Lenmark funeral home in Eau Claire. Burial was in the Lakeview cemetery there. The Rev. Myron Taylor, pastor of the Loyal Methodist church, officiated.

Pallbearers were Calvin Prior, Arthur Fravert, Paul Brandt, Herbert Hinkelmann, Leon Hoesser and Gust Kuester.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peckels, Mrs. Tena Peckels, Mrs. John Zelisnicker and Robert Henderson, all of Virginia, Minn.; Mrs. Tony Tomar and Mrs. Tom Miller of Leoneth, Minn.; Mrs. and Mrs., J. S. Henderson of Mount Iron, Minn.; Mrs. Belle Hoults of Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Adams and family of Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith of Stitzer; Mrs. Mary Melheim of Galena, Ill.; Mrs. Fred Plath of Ankeny, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Elgie Moore and daughter of Mason City, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Bowen and family and Mrs. Ethel Bowen and son, Robert of Curtiss and Miss Loretta Bowen of Wausau.

Verona was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed by all.

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a loved one.
