Bentzler, Elizabeth (23 OCT 1863 - 12 AUG 1944)

Mrs. Elizabeth Bentzler, 80, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Wentzel, in Hartford at 11:45 p.m., on Aug. 12. Her death was the result of a heart ailment and the complications of old age.

Mrs. Bentzler (nee Elizabeth Doll) was born at St. Lawrence on Oct. 23, 1863. She was married to Mathias Bentzler in Washington county.

They lived in Elmwood for several years after their marriage, and 35 years ago they moved to Loyal and purchased the Johnson hotel. Later they moved to a farm near the village, and 25 years ago they purchased a home in the village. Mr. Bentzler died in 1936.

Mrs. Bentzler sold her home a few weeks ago and went to Hartford, leaving here many who had learned to love and respect her in the years she had spent in this vicinity.

She was a member of the local Catholic church, and funeral services were held there at 9 a.m. last Wednesday, with the Rev. Aloys Zinthefer officiating. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.

She is survived by five daughters and five sons; Mrs. Ed (Pauline) Wenzel of Hartford, George and Chris Bentzler of Loyal, Mrs. J. F. (Rose) Loos of DePere, Pete and John Bentzler of South Bend, Ind., Sister M. Carmelita, Holy Family Convent, Sister M. Carmella, x-ray technician at Holy Family Convent, and Sister M. Rose Carmel, teacher at St. Paul’s school, all at Manitowoc, and Cpl. Mathew F. Bentzler, who is in France. Twenty-three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one sister, Mrs. Anna Holzman, of Milwaukee also survive her.

Those who served as pallbearers for the funeral were four of the sons, George, Pete, Chris and John Bentzler; a son-in-law, Ed Wentzel, and a friend Nick Beaver.

Relatives from away who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wentzel of Hartford, Mrs. J, F. Loos of DePere, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Bentzler and two children and John Bentzler of South Bend, Ind., Sister M. Carmelita and Sister M. Rose Carmel of Manitowoc, Mrs. Anna Holzman of Milwaukee and N. Hesprich of Lomira.

The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the bereaved relatives.
