Zillmann, Minnie (3 SEP 1863 - 19 FEB 1950)

Last rites were conducted by Rev. Jas. Irish at the Thorp Funeral Home at 2:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 22nd for Mrs. George Zillmann, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Polkinghorn at Littleton, Colorado on Sunday, Feb 19th, 1950. She had reached the age of 85 years, 5 months and 16 days.

Minnie Nichols was born in Louisville Landing, St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., on Sept. 3, 1863. She came to Thorp in 1890 and became employed as teacher in the local schools. She was united in marriage to George Zillmann, a Thorp merchant, on Dec. 16, 1891, at Madrid, N.Y. They made their home in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), where Mr. Zillmann operated the Nye, Luck & Hudson company store.

Mrs. Zillmann will be remembered by her many friends here as an enthusiastic person of strong will who took an active part in the civic and social affairs of the community, giving liberally of her time, labor and sympathy to all. For many years she headed the local Red Cross chapter and ably distributed the benefits of that organization in this territory. Her life in Thorp was one of active and energetic participation in the development of the city. She made her home here for four years after the death of her husband in Aug. 1941, when she went to Littleton, Colo., to reside.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Stephen Polkinghorn of Littleton, Colo., and one son, Harold Zillmann of Douglaston, L.I., N.Y.

She was laid to rest beside her husband in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were: L. P. Walsdorf, Dr. W. F. Nolecheck, D. D. Stookey, Wm. H. Krause, Wm. S. Wagner, and Wm. A. McEachern.
