Altenburg, Elizabeth (23 February 1871 - 12 December 1950)

Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Altenburg, age 79, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chris VandeBerg, on Tuesday, December 12, at 5:30 a.m.

Funeral services were conducted from the Georgas Funeral Home on Friday at two o’clock with the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating. Interment was made in the Town of Lynn Cemetery.

Mrs. Altenburg was born on February 23, 1871, at Dodgeville. When she was a young girl she went out west with her parents. She received her education in the schools in Colorado. After several years they move to Shullsburg and in 1900 they purchased a farm in Clark County where they resided until 1948 when they retired and moved to Neillsville.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Lucile) Dix, of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs. Chris (Florence) VandeBerg, Neillsville, one sister, Mrs. Frank (Caroline) Prance of Madison and one brother, James Tremelling, of Marshfield, also ten grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Art Viergutz, Louie Helm, W. H. Foote, Arno Gotter, Clark Brooks and Louie Faber.

H. R. Briggs sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Nulton.

Persons from out of town attending the rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Dix and family and Miss Emma Altenburg of Wisconsin Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Tremelling, Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Luchterhand, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Punke, Mr. and Mrs. James Tremelling and Albert Tremelling of Marshfield, Lee Dix and Mrs. Ernest Crossett of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rehm of Amery.
