OWEN -- Harold Martin Sorenson, 84, of rural Owen, passed away at Clark County Health Care Center on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in the town of Hixon.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. A 6 p.m. vigil service will also be held Sunday at the funeral home, led by Father Benjamin Franklin. Further visitation will be held at the church Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Harold was born March 5, 1924, to Emil and Martha (Twait) Sorenson. He received his education from Longwood State Graded School.

He married the love of his life, Louise Kobylarczyk, on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22, 1956). She preceded him in death. Together, they dairy farmed in the town of Longwood (rural Owen) on their ancestral farmstead for many years. With extreme pride, they constructed their ranch-style home. They loved farming. Harold especially admired his herd of black and white Holstein Dairy Cattle. He achieved his family's century farm salute recognition of 1886 to 1986 in August 1986. In Dec. 2004, he sold his dairy farm to neighbors, Dennis and Sherry Rose. He retained a small parcel, keeping his house for "the retirement years."

In his free time, he built multiple home lawn projects, took trips to many casinos, and enjoyed polka music -- especially the Whoppee John Orchestra -- at what was Merry O' Garden Ballroom in rural Longwood. Many people in the Owen-Withee area often remember Harold for driving his blue 1952 International L-120 pickup in many local parades.

Harold is survived by his two adult children, Richard of Owen and Donna (Brent) Fosberg of Spencer. He will be missed by other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by Louise, his wife of 34 years; his parents; his brothers, James in infancy in 1945, and Emery on Feb 22, 1998; and his sister, Gladys Kobylarczyk, on Feb 6, 2009.

He is further preceded in death by friends, neighbors, brothers-in law, sisters-in law, father-in law and mother-in law.
