Washburn (11 March 1971)

Mrs. Horace Rodman will entertain the Cannonville Ladies Aid Wednesday, March 17, with dinner served at noon.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Havlicek, Sr., attended the funeral of Ervin Taylor at Black River Falls Friday. He died Wednesday after a long illness. He was the father of their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Donald Havlicek. Mr. Havlicek, Sr., was a pallbearer.

Dick Coughlin of Eau Claire called Thursday afternoon at the Ralph Short and John Reinart homes.

Dr. and Mrs. Ell Lee of Green Bay spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kissling and visited her brother, Ernest, at the hospital in Marshfield. Their children Patrick and Julie Ann spent last week with their grandparents while their parents attended a dental seminar at Telemark Ski Resort.

Harold Junchen returned home Friday from the Marshfield hospital where he had been a surgical patient. He is recovering nicely.

Mr. and Mrs. George Reinart and Bill Reinart of Tomah were overnight guests Saturday of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reinart. They also visited their mother, Mrs. Henry Hubing.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Short were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Harold Elmendorf in honor of Mrs. Short’s birthday which was March 9.

Jack and Jerri Kapfer and Ed Krueger of Janesville spent the weekend with their aunt, Mrs. Ernest Kissling and family, and their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Kapfer.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Urban and daughter, Brenda, were in Marshfield Saturday.

Mrs. Elmer Kapfer attended World Day of Prayer service at Granton Methodist Church Friday afternoon.

Mr and Mrs. Ron (Buck) Wren and family of West End spent the weekend with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mortenson and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Wren in Neillsville.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Dopp of Marshfield spent Sunday afternoon and were supper guests of her mother, Mrs. Irving Stevens.

Albert Lincoln and son, Jerry, called Sunday afternoon at the Mrs. Art Odell home. Jerry returned to Milwaukee Sunday afternoon to his classes after spending a week’s semester vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lincoln.

Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Pretsch and family of Stratford spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Wanda Pretsch and son, Earl. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jelinek and son, Roger, also were visitors Saturday at the Pretsch home.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Squires of Merrillan, Mrs. Belle Herried of Alma Center, Mrs. Verna Payne and Mrs. Blanch Payne visited Sunday at the Mrs. Frank Short home.

Bernard, Eugene and Dennis Spiegel and Bobbie Mortenson visited Mike Kissling Saturday.

Mrs. DeWayne Mashin and sons of Tomah spent Monday and Tuesday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams. On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Mashin and sons visited at the Nathan Vandeberg home in Wisconsin Rapids.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Poler and sons, Glen and Clay, of West Bend spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Poler. On Sunday they called on their sisters and brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Sherwood and Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams.

Warren Lincoln called at the Albert Lincoln and Mrs. Art Odell homes last week Wednesday.

FP5 Roger Rizner of Ft. Knox, Ky., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Rizner. Other supper guests Saturday at the Rizner home were Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rizner of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Johnson and Mr. and Mrs. Anton Rizner.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rizner of Tomah and Mr. and Mrs. William Rizner were supper guests Sunday at the Harold Junchen home. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rizner spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. William Rizner.

Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Vandeberg and sons of Wisconsin Rapids were supper guests Sunday of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams.

Tommy, Coleen and Douglas Mortenson, children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mortenson and Tammy Voigt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Voigt, have mumps. Douglas Mortenson had hem on one side, recovered and returned to school last week, and in a few days had them on the other side. There seems to be quite a few cases of mumps around Neillsville schools.

Bible study has been changed from Friday night to Saturday night. It will be held at the Francis Jacobson home in Sherwood Saturday evening, March 13.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Schram of Alma Center and Mrs. Albert Lincoln went to Kenosha Friday to attend a Sunday school convention where different kinds of American Sunday School Union materials were presented and workshops were held. Mel Johnson who wrote, “Chips for Teens,” was the speaker. His topic in the afternoon was, “Who is in Charge of Your Home?” and the evening topic was, “Tell it and Sell it.”
