Filipowicz, Mary A. (24 JUN 1868 - 29 DEC 1950)

Mary Anna Filipowicz, a resident of the Town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) for over 58 years, passed away at the Stanley hospital on Friday, Dec. 29, 1950, death being cause by old age infirmities. She had reached the age of 82 years, 6 months and 5 days.

Mrs. Filipowicz was born in Korchowa, Poland on June 24, 1868. Her maiden name was Mary Anna Staroselec. She was united in marriage to Joseph Filipowicz on Feb. 2, 1887. They both came to America in 1890 and resided in Chicago for two years. In May 1892, they came to Thorp and settled on a piece of land that is now in the Town of Withee.

Mrs. Filipowicz was a member of the St. Hedwig’s Catholic parish for 58 years and of the Holy Rosary Society for almost 50, and the Third Order of St. Francis 20 years.

She is survived by 10 children: 3 sons, Anthony of Seattle, Walter and Stanley at home, 7 daughters, (Frances) Mrs. Konstanty Ciok of Gilman, Wis., (Stella) Mrs. John Loferski of Thorp, (Anna) Mrs. Stanley Persak of Gilman, (Julia) Mrs. Wm. Ilavicha, Gilman, (Helen) Mrs. Helen Heyke, Chicago, (Vitoria) Mrs. Victoria Adams of Chicago and (Harriet) Mrs. Peter Lukasiewicz, Thorp. One daughter, (Mary) Mrs. Ben Glick, twin sister of Walter, died at the age of 34 in Chicago in 1936. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1951. The solemn high mass was conducted by Father F. Piekarski, assisting were Father Jos. Walejewski and Father Konopka of Lublin.

Interment took place in the parish cemetery. The following friends acted as pallbearers: Louis Wojtkiewicz, Stanley Swiontek, John Orzechowski, Andrew Strzok, Anthony Kotecki, Leon Andruskiewicz.
