Sorenson, Harold Martin (March 5, 1924 - February 15, 2009)

Harold Martin Sorenson, 84, of rural Owen, passed away at Clark County Health Care Center on Sunday, February 15, 2009. On March 5, 1924, Harold was born to Emil and Martha (Twait) Sorenson. He received his education from Longwood State Graded School.

On Thanksgiving Day (November 22, 1956) he married the love of his life, the late Louise Kobylarczyk. Together, they dairy farmed in the Town of Longwood (rural Owen) on their ancestral farmstead for many years. With extreme pride they constructed their ranch style home. They loved farming. Harold especially admired his herd of black and white Holstein dairy cattle. He achieved his family’s century farm salute recognition of 1886-1986 in August 1986. In Dec. 2004, he sold his dairy farm to neighbors Dennis and Sherry Rose.

He retained a small parcel keeping his house for "the retirement years." In his free time he built multiple home lawn projects, took trips to many casinos, and enjoyed Polka music especially the Whoppee John Orchestra at the what was Merry O’ Garden Ballroom in rural Longwood. Many people in the Owen Withee area often remember Harold from driving his blue 1952 International L-120 pickup in many local parades.

Harold is survived by his two adult children, Richard, Owen and Donna (Brent) Fosberg, Spencer. He will be missed by other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years the late Louise; his parents; his brothers, James in infancy 1945, Emery on Feb 22, 1998; and sister, Gladys Kobylarczyk on Feb 6, 2009.

He is further preceded in death by friends, neighbors, brothers-in law, sisters-in law, father-in law, and a mother-in law.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. A 6 p.m. vigil service was also be held on Sunday at the funeral home led by Father Benjamin Franklin. Further visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2009 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m.. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Hixon.
