Kallien, Mathilda (31 Oct. 1869 - 27 Dec. 1940)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mathilda Kallien, who died Friday, Dec. 27th, were held Monday afternoon at one o’clock from the home of Mrs. Henry Ewan in Corinth. Services were conducted in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Milan at two o’clock with the Rev. E. Malueg officiating. Internment followed in the parish cemetery.

The pallbearers were: Herman Denzine, John Schreiber, Frank Haderlein, Earnest Kramer, Paul Benzman and Emil Gaiser.

Those who carried the many flowers were Dolores Brunner, Carmelita Schreiber, Geraldine Haderlein, Wilma Marquardt, Dorothy Ewan, Bobby, Irene and Entoy Kallien.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kallien and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Zell, Milwaukee; Carl Goldamer and family, West Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Truman Hanson and Robert and Miss Irene Kallien, Phillips; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hoernke and son, Greenwood; Miss Loretta Ewan, Peoria, Ill.; and Frank Marquardt and family, Town of Frankfort.

Mrs. Mathilda Kallien was born Mathilda Rogalski, Oct. 31, 1869 in West Prussia, Germany. Shortly after her marriage there to Herman Kallien on Nov. 9, 1893, they came to America. In the early years of this century they came to the vicinity of Milan where they farmed.

Two sons and one daughter were born to them.

Mr. Kallien and both sons preceded her in death, leaving her daughter, Mrs. Henry Ewan, seven grandchildren and one great grand child as survivors.

The past three and one-half years Mrs. Kallien had been employed as housekeeper at the John Zell home. On Dec. 24th she suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died on Friday at 6:00 P.M.
