Lengyel, Marlene (10 APR 1951)

The Sacred Heart Church at Edson, Wis., was the scene of a pretty wedding on the morning of April 10th, 1951. when Father John B. Pinion joined in holy wedlock, Wilbur, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Benzschawel of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), and Marlene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Lengyel of Boyd.

The couple was attended by Eugene Oberle and Miss Yvonne Lengyel, who was attired in an orchid gown of marquisette yoke and skirt over taffeta with lace trimmings and ruffles.

The bride wore a white slipper satin gown with mandarin collar. Chantilly lace adorned the front of the dress and around the train. Her halo of white satin was set off with seed pearls and her veil was edged in lace. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies and a silver rosary, the groom’s gift.

The maid of honor, Mary Ann Benzschawel, was attired in an apple green dress similar to that of the first bridesmaid and Miss Charlene Swatzina in yellow of similar design.

Flower girl Lois Ann Swiefelohefer wore a dress of apple green marquisette over taffeta and ring bearer James Lengyel Jr., was attired in a white suit.

James Swatzina and Bernard Benzschawel served as ushers. The groom, the groomsman, James Benzschawel and best man wore tuxedos with red boutonnieres.

The maid of honor and bridesmaids carried bouquets of mixed gladioli.

The bride’s mother was attired in a navy blue suit with pink accessories and the groom’s mother in a navy blue dress with orchid accessories. They wore corsages of gardenias and roses and the grandmothers of the couple wore pink carnation corsages.

A reception was held at the Sacred Heart School Hall in the afternoon and dinner was served at 12 o’clock. A dance was given at the Edson Pavilion in the evening, music being furnished by Kodl’s Orchestra.

The newlyweds will make their home on the groom’s farm near Thorp.

Out of town guests attending the wedding were: Mrs. Peter Benzschawel, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Velcheck and son Charles, Stevens Point; Mrs. Marion Culbert and sons Pat and Tommy, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. John O’Donnell, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. John Melville, Cadott; Mr. and Mrs. Murray Kelley, Chippewa Falls.
