Van Slett, Francis J. (11 Aug. 1915 - 20 Dec. 2003)

Francis "Frenchy" J. Van Slett of Waukesha, born Aug. 11, 1915, in Unity, the son of Frank and Marie (nee Allain) Van Slett, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at home at age 88.

He was a member of St. William Catholic Church and the Golden Agers. He loved fishing, woodworking and gardening. He played shuffleboard and was a lawn bowler.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Helen, whom he married Sept. 5, 1942, in Kansas; his two sons, Kenneth (Barbara) Van Slett of Hartland and Gene (Karen) Van Slett of San Francisco; his grandchildren, Andrew (Elizabeth) Van Slett and Lisa Van Slett; his sisters, Aurelia Blanchard, Marie Allman and Bernice Meyers, all of Colby; his brothers, Charles Van Slett of Hartland, Arthur (Ethel) Van Slett of Milwaukee, Russell Van Slett of Milwaukee and Orville (Betty) Van Slett of South Carolina; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joseph and Elmo.

A funeral Mass for Francis will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at St. William Catholic Church, 440 N. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha. The Rev. Leonard Barbian will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m. funeral Mass on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
