Foster, Judith Marie (Marriage - 14 Oct. 1961)

Miss Judith Marie Foster, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Foster of Waukesha, formerly of Colby, and Kenneth Charles Gierl, son of Mrs. Nick Gierl of Colby, exchanged marriage vows in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Saturday morning at 10 o’clock when the bride was given in marriage by her father. Rev. John Pinion officiated at the nuptial ceremony.

Mrs. Alois Gabriel of Colby was the organist for the service with the Children’s Choir singing the nuptial High Mass and William Gries, soloist for two hymns, "Panis Angelicus" and "Ave Maria." Bouquets of white, yellow and gold chrysanthemums and a bouquet of red roses were placed on the altar.

When the bride proceeded down the aisle with her father she wore a floor-length gown designed with full chapel train of Chantilly lace and tulle, the fitted lace bodice having a Sabrina neckline. The bouffant skirt also featured the panels of lace at the skirt front, and the back had tiers of alternating lace and tulle from the waistline and extending into the train.

A fingertip veil of imported pure silk illusion billowed from a crown of pearls and small crystal droplets. The bride’s flowers were a heart-shaped arrangement of red roses and feathered carnations with white satin ribbon streamers.

Proceeding to the altar before the bride were her maid of honor, Miss Sharon Foster of Waukesha and her bridesmaids, Mrs. Jerry Herbert of Milwaukee, and Miss Karen Klessig of Colby, Wis. They wore identical gowns, ballerina length, of ruby iridescent taffeta, the fitted bodices having modified scoop necklines, with horizontal bands of self material ending in bows at the back.

Their matching headpieces of crystals had ruby circular veils. Miss Foster carried a cascade of white, yellow and gold pompons and Mrs. Herbert’s and Miss Klessig’s bouquets in cascade shape included white and yellow chrysanthemums and pompons.

The miniature bride and groom were Theresa Foster and Randy Gierl, dressed like the bride and groom, and the ring bearer was Danny Leffel.

Richard Kessler of Greenwood, was the best man and Jerry Hebert and Lawrence Foster, both of Milwaukee, were the groomsmen.

Gary Finco of Milwaukee, and LeRoy Kessler of Greenwood, the ushers, seated the local wedding guests as well as those coming from Colby, Abbotsford, Marshfield, Wausau and Milwaukee and from Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio.

Wedding day activities included the breakfast in St. Mary’s gymnasium after the church service, the reception from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the old Colby High School gymnasium; the supper at 4:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s gymnasium and the dance that evening in the Sportsman’s Park, Colby, Wis.

Mrs. Gierl, who with her husband was graduated from Colby High School in 1960, is attending the Accredited School of Beauty Culture at Green Bay. Mr. Gierl works for the American Packaging Corp., Colby, where the Gierl home will be established.

At present the newlyweds are honeymooning in the Niagara Falls, New York and Mackinac Island areas.
