Willard (29 April 1971)

The tractors and other equipment for seeding oats were out last week preparing the fields for oats seeding. The weather has been favorable except towards the weekend when it began to get cold in some places as low as 20 to 23 degrees, with a hard freeze Saturday morning.

The Willard 4-H club held their monthly meeting last Thursday night at the parish center. Carol Govek, president, conducted the meeting. The proceedings from the bake sale will go for some worthy cause and they will purchase flowers for patients, Miss Mary Lou Hribar, Mrs. Holverson and Mrs. Seibold. It was decided to play softball again this summer. They elected Carol Govek captain and Larry Krainz co-captain. The group plans to give a donation for community service, such as repairing the ball diamond in Willard. A sewing meeting will be held at the parish center May 1. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

Frank Gosar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Gosar, won the spelling contest held last week at the elementary school in Greenwood. Next he will go to the Colby Elementary School for the contest there.

Ernest Olson of Berwyn, Ill., returned there Monday after spending some time here and attending the funeral of Mrs. Alfred Knute at Fairchild on Sunday.

Mr and Mrs. Leo Winecke of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Louise Bukovec visited Anne Champa Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Champa spent from Monday until Thursday in Rochester, Minn., with Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Champa and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kadelec and family of St. Paul, Minn., spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Jordan.

Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Jordan, and Mrs. Warren Knudsen and Mr. and Mrs. Don McFarlane, Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Artac attended the 25th wedding anniversary and open house in Alma Center last Saturday night of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Laufenburg.

Mr and Mrs. Larry Stremikis of San Francisco, Calif., have returned there after spending a week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Stremikis, Sr., and family.

Sister Antonia of Waukesha is visiting relatives and friends and staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Gosar and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Doepke of Milwaukee spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Klapatauskas.

Miss Diane Klapatauskas of Marshfield spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Klapatauskas.

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Matkovich and Tracy of Owen were supper guests last Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Matkovich.

Daniel Allen, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson, was baptized last Sunday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Eau Claire, the Rev. Richards Raschki officiating. Godparents were Raymond Lamovec and Mrs. Al Vinsetek. Dinner guests were Mr. and Mrs. Chester Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Al Vinsetek, Judy and Joe, all of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lamovec, Sr., and Raymond, of Willard.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Winecke of Chicago, Ill., are spending a week with Mrs. Louise Bukovec, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bukovec and Mr. and Mrs. Sylvain Krultz and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Koschak of Waukegan, Ill., were at their Mead Lake Cottage recently and also visited relatives here.

Mr. and Mrs. Al Hemersbach spent Wednesday night with Mr and Mrs. Joseph Ulesich.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Isaacson of Neillsville visited Saturday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. John Verschay.

John Hribar of Chicago, Ill., spent the weekend with relatives here and at Rock Dam.

Miss Susan Hribar, Chicago, Ill., spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hribar.

Mr. and Mrs. Ewald Schwarze of Greenwood were supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Krapf, Sr., last Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Wolf spent from Monday through Thursday in Utica, N.Y., visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ray De-Carqualle.

Mary Lou Hribar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hribar, is a surgical patient at University Hospital in Madison.

Mrs. Dorothy Fortuna arrived here last Saturday after spending five months in Tucson, Ariz., three weeks in Crawfordsville, Ind., with her daughter, Anna and family, and five weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Gradisher and family in Westchester, Ill., who brought her home.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tolaney, Sr. spent the weekend in Racine and Milwaukee.

It was stated last week that Joseph and John Plautz were dinner guests of Frank Plautz at Memorial Home. It should have been Joseph and George Plautz.
