Johnson, Elaine (Marriage - 3 June 1941)

St. Bernard’s Catholic church was the scene of a very pretty wedding on Tuesday morning at nine o’clock when Miss Elaine Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Johnson, of Abbotsford exchanged marriage vows with Leo F. Hilber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hilber of Marathon. The Rev. C. D. Brady performed the ceremony. The altars of the church were decorated with peach gladioli and bridal wreath, Miss Bernadette Kraus, of Colby presided at the organ with the St. Bernard’s choir singing during the nuptial high mass and Miss Adell Ellingson of Milan, singing Schubert’s Ave Maria at the offertory.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, chose a gown with a long train of velveray mousseline-de-soie over satin. It was fashioned with a sweet heart neck line with buttons down the back and sleeves that extended to a point over the wrist. Her long lace trimmed silk net veil fell from a tiara of seed pearls. She carried an arm bouquet of pink roses, white sweet peas and yellow daisies, and a white prayer book. She wore white sandals and also a gold chain and cross given to her by the groom.

Miss Doris Johnson, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, wore a floor length gown of pink marquisette and lace over satin. Miss Evelyn Hall, as bridesmaid, wore a floor length gown of blue marquisette over satin, fashioned the same as Miss Johnson’s. Both wore colonial hats to match their gowns and carried colonial bouquets of mixed flowers. They both wore white sandals and a gold chain and cross.

Little Miss Joyce Hilber of Wausau, niece of the groom, was flower girl and wore a floor length gown of yellow marquisette over satin. She wore a colonial hat to match, and carried a colonial bouquet.

Bobby Hilber of Wausau, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer and wore a white suit. He carried the rings on a white heart shaped satin pillow.

Lorris Johnson, brother of the bride, and Arthur Hilber, nephew of the groom, attended the groom.

The bride’s mother wore a two-tone blue crepe dress with matching hat; the groom’s mother wore a dress of navy blue crepe. Both mothers had shoulder corsages.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. Dinner and supper were served to about 50 guests. The home was decorated with white, pink, blue and yellow streamers and cut flowers, and the large three-tiered wedding cake was adorned with the same ornament that was used on the wedding cake of the bride’s mother.

Miss Johnson is a graduate of the Abbotsford High School class of 1939 and has been employed at Wausau.

Mr. Hilber is a graduate of the Marathon High School and also of the Stevens Point State Teachers College. He has taught school for the past three years near Edgar, and is now employed at Winkleman’s store at Wausau. They will make their home at Wausau.

Among the out of town guests who attended the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hilber, Mr. and Mrs. John Saymborski and family, Arthur and Alex, Hilbert; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hall and daughter, Evelyn, Miss Vivian Hall,, Walter Franke, Marathon; Mr. and Mrs. Tony Svitlick and daughter, Judy, Cherokee; Mr. and Mrs. Winand Hilber and children, Frank Wadzinski, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Stahura and family, Mosinee; Ambrose Hilber, Milwaukee; Mrs. Harry Johnson, Miss Laverne Arnold, Unity; Henry Misudek, Wurtsberg; Misses Jeanette Nehring and Adell Ellingson, Milan.
