Schraufnagel, Maryjo (18 May 1926 - 19 Mar. 2009)

COLBY -- Maryjo Schraufnagel's journey though life ended on March 19, 2009, after a lingering illness. She was 82. Maryjo was born May 18, 1926, in Rockford, Ill., to Klea and George Goding. On Sept. 7, 1946, she married Wayne Hammer. He died in 1983. Maryjo married Cletus Schraufnagel Aug. 23, 1985.

Maryjo and Cletus enjoyed spending their winters in Texas for 22 years until ill health required them to stay in Wisconsin year-round. They also enjoyed traveling both in and out of the country. Maryjo enjoyed many kinds of needlework creating and sharing beautiful memories for family and friends.

She leaves her husband Cletus of Colby; and children, Candace Lynn (Frits) VanDeventer of Long Beach, Calif., Kent (Maggie) Hammer of Hilton Head, S.C./Trempealeau, Wis., and Brenda (Bryan) Gumz of Medford. She was the proud grandma of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Maryjo also leaves stepchildren, Carol (Steve) Luther, Pat (Sharon) Schraufnagel, Terry (Faye) Schraufnagel, all of Colby, Dennis, deceased, (Sue) Schraufnagel of Edgar, Mary (Rod) Umlauft of Stetsonville and Joan (Gene) Peissig of Abbotsford; along with 28 stepgrandchildren and 33 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Marjo was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially enjoyed her 38 great-grandchildren. Maryjo's caring ways and sense of humor will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials given to the family will be donated to hospice.

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. Father Anandran Rajendran will officiate.

Acting as her pallbearers will be her grandsons.
