Kennedy, Martha (20 Nov. 1855 - 11 Sept. 1941)

A simple Presbyterian service for Mrs. Martha Kennedy, 85, who died Thursday at her home in Tomah, was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the home of her son, H. D. Kennedy. During the rites conducted by the Rev. George Griffiths, Mrs. W. R. Berger and Miss Jessie Merrill sang two hymns: "The Light of Heaven" and "The Best Friend To Have Is Jesus." Internment followed in the Abbotsford cemetery.

The pallbearers were: Richard Kennedy, Joe Spencer, Norman Wenzel, George Stoughtinger, Morris Thompson and Ben Merwin.

The flowers were carried by the Misses June Kennedy, and Lucille Krueger, Mrs. Richard Kennedy and Mrs. Norman Wenzel.

Mrs. Kennedy was born Martha Fogel in Virginia, Nov. 20, 1855 and grew to womanhood there. She was married to Robert Kennedy at Grayson, Ohio, in 1880 after which they came to Vernon County, Wisconsin, settling at La Farge. Here their six children were born.

At various times Mrs. Kennedy has spent several months here with her son and only a month ago returned to La Farge where she suffered a stroke and died last Thursday.

Her husband and four children, Charles, Elaine, Doris and Victoria, preceded her in death. Two sons, Homer of Abbotsford and Byrd of La Farge survive her as well as 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Byrd Kennedy, La Farge, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kennedy, Madison, Miss June Kennedy, Menomonie, and Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Henry, Tomah.
