Schemmer, Dr. Anthony L. (2 August 1890 - 23 August 1951)

Dr. Anthony L. Schemmer, 61, of Colby was buried at the Chilton Cemetery following his death on Thursday, Aug. 23, 1951. Funeral services were conducted at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Colby, Wis. He had been ill with a heart ailment for over a year.

Dr. Schemmer had been a practicing physician in Colby, Wisconsin for 38 years. He graduated from Marquette University in 1913. At one time he was president of the Clark County Medical Society. He was serving as health officer for the Town of Hull at the time of his death.

Dr. Schemmer was born on August 2, 1890, in Clintonville but grew up in Hilbert. He married the former Gertrude Goessling in Milwaukee in 1914.

Survivors include his wife; a son, John K. of New York; a grandson; a brother, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. George Schemmer of New Holstein; and two sisters, Misses Mary and Josephine Schemmer.

Dr. Schemmer was a member of the Catholic order of Foresters of Colby and the Medford Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of general practice and the State Gynecology and Obstetrical Society.
