Horn, Stanley J. Major (1902 - 12 Dec. 1941)

James W. Horn of Oshkosh has received word from the War Department of the death of his son, Major Stanley J. Horn. His death on December 12th was the result of an airplane crash against a building. Major Horn was not in the airplane. More details are not available at this time but it is assumed that the plane crashed into the office building where he was at work in Panama.

Stanley J. Horn was born in Minneapolis in 1902 and moved to the town of Hull in 1915, with his parents. He graduated from the Abbotsford High School with the class of 1921. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1925 and has been an officer in the Army since that time.

Before going to Panama in August, 1940, he had been stationed at various army posts besides and had served two years as one the engineers surveying for the proposed Nicaraguan canal. He also served four years as instructor in Mathematics at West Point and spent four years at Louisville, Ky., on the Ohio River Flood control project.

He was married in 1925 to Miss Kathryn Kurtz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kurtz, of Riverside. There are three children: Stanley, Jr., David and Nancy. Besides his father he is also survived by one sister, Gladys, of Milwaukee, and a brother, Donald, of Oshkosh.
