Gierl, Laura Gertrude (19 Jan. 1886 - 10 Oct. 1944)

Funeral services for Mrs. Robert Gierl, who died at her home, Tuesday, Oct. 10, will be held Monday morning at 10:00 o’clock at St. Bernard’s Catholic church.

Mrs. Gierl, who was 58 years old, had been ill the past month and went to St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, on Oct. 3 for examination and treatment. She returned home last Sunday. Death came at 9:00 o’clock Tuesday night.

Laura Gertrude Schneider was born Jan. 19, 1886 in the town of Hull. After she finished school she spent a few years in Iowa City, Iowa before her marriage, Jan. 16, 1912 to Robert Gierl at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wis. They lived in Colby, Wisconsin for a year and then moved to Abbotsford where they lived for four years, during which time Mr. Gierl worked for the railroad. Then then moved to their farm, three and one-half miles east of Abbotsford where they lived together until Mr. Gierl’s unexpected death, Nov. 14, 1941. Mrs. Gierl continued to make her home there until her own death.

She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic church and a faithful member of St. Bernard’s Altar Society, which organization met at her home last August.

Surviving are two children, Morris, and Mrs. Robert (Helen) Weideman, both of Abbotsford, and four grand children. There are two brothers, John Schneider, Colby; and Anton Schneider, of Spokane, Wash.; and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Helmer, of Iowa City, Iowa, and Mrs. Leo Bates, of Stiens, N. Mex. One sister, Mrs. Al Schuman, of Abbotsford, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bates is expected to arrive for the funeral.

Funeral services for Mrs. Robert Gierl, who died Oct. 10, were held Monday morning at 10:00 o’clock at St. Bernard’s Catholic church. After a requiem high mass sung by the Rev. Francis Brockman, internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery in the family lot. A large number of relatives and friends attended the last rites.

Pall bearers were Leo Bauer, John Kiefer, Joe Kunze, Frank Lukas, Fred Toelle and Anton Van Dreel.

The flowers were carried by the Misses Jane and Patsy, Martha Janda, Ann Nikolay and Ella Seidel.

Among the near relatives, besides the children, attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Anton Schneider, Spokane, Wash.; John Schneider, Colby; Mrs. Herman Helmer, Iowa City, Iowa; and Mrs. Leo Bates, Steins, N. Mex.

Friends and relatives from away at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gierl and family, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gierl and family, Mrs. Anna Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lehman, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lehman and family, Mrs. John Berghammer and Mrs. Al Miller, Athens; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gierl, Louis, George and Killian Gierl, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Gierl and Claus Nagel, Colby, Wis.
