Witt, Alexander L. (13 June 1894 - 23 June 1945)

Funeral services for Alex Witt, 51 years of age, who died at his home, Saturday, were held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o’clock at Zink’s Funeral home, where the body had been lying in state. After the services, conducted by the Rev. G. E. Griffiths, the body was taken to Clintonville where another service was held at 2:00 o’clock and internment was then made.

At the Abbotsford service, Miss Lenore Berry, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Franz, at the piano, sang "I Shall Understand."

The pallbearers were Otto Rossow and Alex Mrotek, of Loyal, Emil Daellenbach, Fred Gosse, Adolph Kalepp and Jack Weideman.

Alexander L. Witt, son of Theodore and Fridericka Witt, was born on a farm near Clintonville, June 13, 1894. He was united in marriage to Leanora Matthias, at Big Falls, Wis., on Sept. 17, 1917. To this union were born four children, all of whom survive their father: Doris (Mrs. Joe Nidy) of Milwaukee; Julius, at home; Frieda, with the Waves in New York, and Alice (Mrs. Val Wojner), Chicago.

Mr. Witt was in the cheese making business for 36 years and at various times was located at Big Falls, Loyal, town of Beaver, Grand View, Ingram, and back to the town of Beaver, from where the family moved to Abbotsford in May, 1941. Mr. Witt started the A. & J. Auto Wrecking, here.

Besides his widow and four children Mr. Witt leaves six grand children, one sister, Mrs. Martha Schellien, and brother, Edwin, of Clintonville, and a brother, Henry, of Tomah. His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.

Among the relatives from away who attended the funeral at Abbotsford were Frieda Witt, of the Waves, New York; Mr. and Mrs. Val Wojner and children, of Chicago; Joe Nidy, Mrs. Lydia Marks, Mrs. Howard Zuehl and children and Arthur Matthias, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Witt, of Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dalke, of Hawkins, and Mrs. Joe Bedard and daughter, Mona Gayle, of Ingram.
