Begley, Bertha (10 September 1878 - 15 December 1951)

Mrs. George Begley, age 73, died at an Eau Claire hospital on Saturday, December 15. She had been hospitalized since she suffered a stroke and a fractured hip on November 28.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday at two o’clock from the Georgas Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating. Interment was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Begley, nee Bertha Head, was born on September 10, 1878 to Herbert and Alice Squires Head at Humbird. She had been a lifetime resident of Clark County. She taught school for several years. On July 2, 1902 she was married to George Begley at Humbird. They moved to a farm in the Town of York, where they resided until 1920. They then moved to the city for four years and returned to the farm, where they lived until 1927, when they purchased a smaller farm just north of the city limits. They farmed there until 1949 when they purchased a home on West Fifth Street.

Mrs. Begley is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Blanche) Mohr, who recently moved to her mother’s home to care for her; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Archie (Lila) Begley of Sparta; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Marion Begley and Miss Grace Begley of the city; also eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death on June 17, 1949, and her son, Archie, in August 1949.

Funeral services were conducted last week Tuesday from the Georgas Funeral Home for Mrs. Bertha Begley of Neillsville. Interment was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rev. Virgil Nulton officiated.

Pallbearers were: Walter Aumann, Kenneth Metcalf, Leon Schnabel, Leon Metcalf, Ernest Feyen an Lyle Armitage.

Wilfred Galstad sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Nulton.

Persons from out of town attending included: Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Christie of Greenwood, Mrs. Lila Begley of Sparta and Mrs. Kate Cook of Humbird.
