Gierl, Ernest P. (8 July 1895 - 21 Jan. 1946)

A requiem high mass was sung this morning for Ernest P. Gierl, 50, who died Monday, at St. Mary’s Catholic church at Colby, at 9:30 with the Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating. Internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Ernest Gierl, who was well known as a fur dealer and farmer, was born in the Town of Hull, July 8, 1895, and had lived on a farm since his marriage to Loretta Duellman, September 18, 1928. Mr. Gierl had been ill for some time and suffered a stroke Sunday night. Death occurred at 3:00 o’clock Monday afternoon at his home in the Town of Hull.

He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the American Legion, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his wife and seven children, Peter, Mary Lou, Patricia, Barbara, Dorothy, Judy and Victoria, all at home. Two daughters, Catherine and Mary Ann, preceded him in death.

There are five brothers, Louis, Killian and George Gierl, Colby; and Joseph and Albert Gierl, Athens; and four sisters, Mrs. Katherine Seaberry, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Mrs. Mary Dietrich, Milwaukee; Mrs. Ida Lukowicz, Colby; and Mrs. Hugo (Anna) Dhein, Clintonville.
