Kramer, Arvid F. (March 17, 1920 - April 5, 2009)

Arvin F. Kramer of Abbotsford, Wisconsin died April 5, 2009, at the age of 89 years.

Arvin was born March 17, 1920, in the town of Holton, Marathon County, to Anton and Minnie (Klawiter) Kramer. He married Gladys Kath on June 16, 1945, at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford, Wis. They began their married life in Madison and while there, Arvin was recruited to the Army. He spent the following year in the 21st Infantry in Japan.

Upon returning to the Abbotsford area in 1951, they bought the Abby Café, which they operated for 16 years. Following the sale of the cafe, they built the Flame Supper Club, which is now known as the Moliters New Saloon. After selling that, they owned and operated the Home Motel for 11 years.

Arvin was a member of the VFW and participated in their activities. He was a life-long member of Christ Lutheran Church and actively helped during the building of the new church. He was also a member of the Aid Association for Lutherans. Arvin enjoyed bus trips, especially the European Trip, hunting, fishing, playing cards and joking with friends.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys; one son, Dwight (Nancy) Kramer of Abbotsford; one daughter, Cheryl (Glen) Readett of Martinez, Ga.; one brother, Roger (Judy) Kramer of Sparta; two sisters-in-law, Corey (Darold) Kramer of Waupaca, and Vivian (Howard) Kramer of Abbotsford; two grandsons, Nathan Backus of Georgia, and Ryan (Heather) Backus of Georgia; one granddaughter, Rachel Kramer of Appleton; other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Darold, Edward and Howard; one sister-in-law, Doris Kramer; one nephew, Brad Kramer of Sparta; and one niece, Cathy Kramer of Waupaca.

Visitation with the family will be at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul C. Hunsicker. Interment of the ashes will take place following the service at Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
