Koenig, Violet Arlene (18 June 1925 - 29 Apr. 2009)

Violet A. Koenig, 83, of Spooner, a longtime resident of Spencer, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Spooner Health System Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Spencer. Burial will be in the West Spencer Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home of Spencer.

SPOONER -- Violet Arlene (Matter) Koenig, 83, of Spooner, formerly of Spencer, died Wednesday evening, April 29, 2009, at the Spooner Health System, Spooner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, Spencer. The Rev. Karl Rose will officiate. Burial will be in the West Spencer Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home in Spencer. Violet's six grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers.

Violet Arlene Walti was born June 18, 1925, in the town of McMillan, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Sersch) Walti.

The former Violet Walti was united in holy marriage to Orval Matter on Oct. 18, 1945, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the town of McMillan, Marathon County. Orval preceded Violet in death in 1970. She married Ernest Koenig on June 26, 1976, at Trinity Lutheran Church in the village of Spencer. Ernest died in 1985.

Violet was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid for 61 years. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School many years, and worked with the Walther League youth group. Violet moved to Spooner in 2006, where she joined Faith Lutheran Church.

Her favorite pastime was spending loving days with her family. Violet enjoyed reading, card playing, fishing, writing letters and knitting. She had many hobbies. Violet was an avid traveler. She visited all 50 states, Australia, and about 10 foreign countries. Violet is lovingly survived by her children, James (Ann) Matter of Perry, Kan., Barbara (Andrew) Lawton of Spooner and Brenda Frank of Elkhart Lake. Violet is also survived by six grandchildren, Gale (Christian) Dierschow, Peter (Crystal) Lawton, Samuel Lawton, Scott Lawton, David (Gemma) Matter and Karen Matter. She is further survived by five great-grandchildren, Cooper Lawton, Addison Dierschow, Carson Dierschow, Journee Matter and Ashley Suzanne Heywood. One sister-in-law, Viola Walti, also survives Violet.

Violet was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, her brother, Harold, and her sister, Alice Huber.
