Olson, Mary (7 June 1864 - 5 Nov. 1948)

Funeral services for Mrs. J. A. Olson, 84 years old, who died at her home, Friday, were held Tuesday afternoon. The body was taken from the Zink Funeral Home where it had been lying in state to the Presbyterian church, where the Rev. G. E. Griffiths conducted the services at 2:00 o’clock, during which Miss Jessie Merrill and Mrs. Joyce Stieber sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "Oh, the Best Friend to Have Is Jesus," and "Abide With Me."

Eastern Star rites also were held at the church after which internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Frank Wing, Charles Hoffman, Walter Jackson, Harry Ketcham, Frank Goeltz, and Wilbur Kuehnast.

The many beautiful flowers were carried by the members of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Olson, the former Mary Donaldson, was born in Norway, June 7, 1864, and at the age of 9 years came to America and lived in Wisconsin. She was married to John A. Olson at Colby, Jan. 17, 1882, after which the young couple made their home in Abbotsford, being among the earliest to settle in this community. Eight children were born to them, six of whom survive their parents; John, Jr., and Mabel having died in infancy.

Mrs. Olson had been an active member of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Ladies’ Home Mission of the Presbyterian church. She was a charter and honorary member of the Abbotsford Women’s club.

Mrs. Olson had been in good health until three and one-half months ago when she suffered a stroke and later fractured her hip. Death was caused by complications and occurred at her home, Friday afternoon at 3:40.

Surviving are six children, Mrs. Albert (Josephine) Strebe and Mrs. Harry (Emma) Treat, both of Abbotsford; Charles D. Olson, King; J. M. Olson, Wausau; Mrs. Frank (Effe) Juneau, Chippewa Falls; and Mrs. Adelaide Simerson, Abbotsford, Wis.

Mr. Olson preceded her in death in November, 1938. A brother and two sisters also preceded her in death.

There are five grand children and four great grand children.
