Chris, Mary Magdalene (8 Sept. 1875 - 12 Apr.1949)

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Chris, 75 years old, who died Tuesday at her home will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at St. Bernard’s Catholic church, with the Rev. Raymond Schulz officiating. Internment will follow in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. This being Good Friday, the funeral mass will be said after Easter.

 

The body will lie in state at the Zink Funeral Home, where a rosary service will be held Thursday evening, about 8:00 o’clock.

 

Mrs. Chris, who had been in poor health for some time, suffered a stroke Monday evening, and died Tuesday afternoon at 3:45.

 

Surviving are seven children: Ben and Mrs. A. J. (Clara) Kleinstick, of Gary, Ind.; Steve of Mercer; Mrs. Claude (Lillian) Hammel, Chicago; Mrs. Charles (Rose) Knaack, Owen; Mrs. Frank (Lucianne) Zondlo, Rib Lake, and Clarence, at home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Chris, town of Holton, who passed away at her home, Tuesday, April 12, at 3:45 p.m., were held at St. Bernard’s Catholic church at Abbotsford at 2:00 o’clock, Friday afternoon, with the Rev. Raymond Schulz officiating. Burial was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. The requiem high mass was sung at St. Bernard’s Wednesday morning at 8:00 o’clock.

 

Pallbearers were Morris Gierl, William Hintz, Leo Bumann, Frank Lukas, Gust Hintz and Fred Toelle.

 

Those who carried the beautiful floral offerings were the Misses Carol Moberg, Mary Shields, Angela and Sandra Zink, Anna Marie Schmirler, Susanne Hartzell, Ann Janda, and Norma Joe Kludy.

 

Death was due to a stroke of paralysis which occurred the evening before. She had been in ill health for several years.

 

Mary Magdalene Arbuch was born near Berlin, Germany, Sept. 8, 1873. After the death of her parents, Agnes and Martin Arbuch, she came to America at the age of seven. She made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Sybeldon, her uncle and aunt, who lived on a farm near Stevens Point.

 

On Jan. 20, 1890, she was united in marriage to Frank Chris at Stevens Point and they lived there the first years of their marriage. She lived in the town of Holton since 1903.

 

Mrs. Chris was an honorary member of St. Bernard’s Altar Society.

 

Surviving are eight children, all of whom attended the funeral. They are Ben Chris and Mrs. Adolph (Clara) Kleinstick, Gary, Indiana; Mrs. Fred (Bertha) Brick, Boyd; Mrs. Charles (Rose) Knaack, Owen; Mrs. Frank (Lucianne) Zondlo, Rib Lake; Steve Chris, Mercer; Mrs. Claude (Lillian) Hammel, Chicago; and Clarence Chris, at home.

 

Also surviving are 13 grand children and nine great grand children.

 

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral included Charles Knaack and sons, Rudolph, Donald, and Charles, and daughter, Imogene, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Thorson, Mrs. Orville Welker, and Gerald Knaack, Owen; Danny Hammel, Chicago; Gregory Kleinstick, Gary, Indiana; Frank Chris, Mercer; Mr. and Mrs. George Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Brick, Chippewa Falls; Fred Brick, Boyd; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fischer, Stetsonville; Ernest Reid and daughter, Martha, and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Banas, Medford; Frank Zondlo, Mrs. George Zondlo, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zondlo and children, Rib Lake; Louis and Killian Gierl, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Zimich, Wausau; Albert Zimbal and daughter, Meta, of Colby, Wis.
