Mr. Jakel was born in the town of Mayville, June 15, 1916. He received his education in Curtiss schools and became well known in baseball circles in that area. He served as an umpire in the Wisconsin State League two years ago and had hoped to continue that career.

He served four years as a private first class with the Marine Corps during the war and spent 18 months at Guadalcanal and New Zealand. He was discharged in January, 1946.

Mr. Jakel and Floyd Klemetson, 24, driver of the car, were going north on Highway 73, about 1:00 a.m. Tuesday. Mr. Klemetson claimed he suddenly swerved to avoid hitting a skunk. The auto rolled over on the shoulder, and was extensively damaged.

Both men were treated by a Withee physician and then taken by ambulance to St. Joseph’s hospital, where Mr. Jakel died a short time later.

Mr. Klemetson is reported in good condition.
