The marriage of Miss Beverly J. McManus, Stanley, and Anton Penk, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), took place on the morning of Thanksgiving Day at St. Mary’s Church in Stanley, the Rev. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Kenneth Urquhart of Stanley and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Penk of Thorp.

The bride, who was escorted to the altar by her stepfather, Kenneth Urquhart, was lovely in her gown of white Chantilly lace and nylon tulle. The fitted strapless bodice of nylon tulle and lace had a lace jacket, and the handkerchief skirt of lace edged in tulle, was worn over underskirts of satin and net and was waltz length. Her imported silk illusion net veil was ballerina length and was held in place with a tiara of sequins and seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of red roses.

The maid of honor was Valerie Obreski, sister of the groom. Arlene Tanler, friend of the bride, and Joan Penk , niece of the groom, were the bridesmaids. Each bridal aide wore an orchid gown featuring fitted lace bodice with off the shoulder necklines with standup collar, and waltz length tiered bouffant skirt of nylon tulle over satin. Each wore a matching crown hat of flowers with stardust and nose veils. Each carried a bouquet of yellow roses. Their earrings were gifts of the bride.

The best man was Eugene McManus, brother of the bride, of the U.S. Navy, AMAN, Norfolk, Va. Sylvester Lewan, friend of the groom, was the groomsman. Escorting the guests to their seats were Donald Peterson, cousin of the bride, and John Penk, brother of the groom.

The bride’s mother witnessed the ceremony wearing a grey suit trimmed in black velvet complemented with black accessories. Mrs. Penk was attired in a black suit dress trimmed in rhinestones with black accessories. Each wore a corsage of red roses.

A dinner was served at noon to the bridal party and members of the immediate families at the P and A Hall, where a reception was held at 5:30. Orchid and white were used in the decorations.

For traveling on their wedding trip, the young Mrs. Penk wore a grey wool suit trimmed with red velvet, with red accessories. She is a graduate of Stanley High School and the groom graduated from Gilman High.

Pre-nuptial events included showers given at the bride’s home by friends and one given at St. Mary’s School Hall, also by friends.
