Smasal, Killian & Barbara (60th - 5 APR 1953)

 

Sixty years of married life were observed by Mr. and Mrs. Killian Smasal, 88 and 77 years of age respectively, of Stanley on Easter Sunday.  Their special day began with a high mass in their honor at ten o’clock celebrated at St. Anne’s Church by the Rev. Edmond Cramer.  A dinner at noon served in the parlors of the church for the immediate family with covers laid for seventy guests.  The color scheme foe Easter, lavender and yellow, was carried out in the table decorations, lighted tapes,a n dint eh center a beautifully decorated three-tier wedding cake by Mrs. L. Solie and further beautified by a large orchid basket of yellow roses, ferns and orchids prepared by Mrs. Stella Pacewicz of Withee.

 

In the afternoon from two until five, open house was held in the church parlors.  Approximately one hundred and fifty friends, neighbors and relatives called to congratulate the guests of honor.  Mrs. Smasal greeted their guests wearing a light blue suit dress with navy accessories and an orchid corsage.  They were presented with a purse of money.

 

Miss Barbara Soeller of Campbellsport, Wis., and Killian Smasal of Killian, Wis., were married on April 5, 1893 at Killian.  They came to the Stanley country which was all wilderness, then moving into a log cabin on the farm where they still reside, which is located two miles southwest of Stanley.  Mr. Smasal worked at the sawmill clearing the land in his spare time, and building modern buildings.  They have eight children, Oscar of Milwaukee; Leo of Port Angeles, Wash.; Arthur of Withee; Mrs. C. S. (Veronica) Jacobson of Oconomowoc; George of Stanley; Mrs. Walter (Gertrude) Wrolstad of Milwaukee; Mrs. Howard (Lorraine) Rixford of Stanley, and Sylvester of Stanley.  All were present except Leo.  There are 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

 

The Smasals are members of St. Anne’s Church, and Mrs. Smasal is a member of St. Anne’s Christian Mother’s Society, belongs to a circle, and to a cinch club.

 

Included among the out of town guests present are: (besides the children) Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smasal and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Ward and Kathie of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. O. T. Vanderberg and Richie, Peter and Jimmie of North Prairie; Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Schoenfield of Okotchee; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Soeller and Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell of Campbellsport; George Soeller and Margaret of Brandon; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Von Wald and Diane of Eau Claire; Mrs. Dorothy Kearney of Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smasal and Gray and Dick, Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Bowen, Bob Smasal, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Wolters, Elmer Hagen, all of Withee; Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Geissler of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Soeller and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Soeller of Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Shilts, Mr. and Mrs. Joe DeBruen, Mrs. Rose Pinter, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Schruebel of Boyd.
