Fred Leland Hilton, 80, of Owen died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley. 
 

At the family's request a private service and burial will take place at a later date. 
 

Fred was born Dec. 8, 1928, in South Dakota to Fred and Edith (Husted) Hilton. Fred served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was later honorably discharged. He married Elma Wallick on Jan. 19, 1950, in San Francisco, Calif. They operated the HiWay Grocery Store, Greenwood, from 1970 to 1988. Following Elma's death in 2007, Fred resided in Owen with his daughter Diana. 
 

Fred is survived by his children Diana (Allen) Wagner, David (Leslie) Hilton, Nyle (Jessica) Hilton, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is further survived by sisters Eva Wiltfong and Fern (Don) Kursave.
