Giwojna, John Francis (8 April 1909 - 15 October 2009)

John F. Giwojna, age 100 of Thorp, died on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley.  There will be no services held.  Burial of cremains will take place in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery, in Thorp, at a later date.

John Francis Giwojna was born on April 8, 1909 in Withee, WI, the son of Joseph and Minnie (Rembleske) Giwojna.  He was raised on the family farm and received his education in the Withee area.  John was united in marriage to Anne P. Milewski on June 24, 1931 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp.  They resided in Thorp where John owned and operated a gas station and garage.  He worked as a mechanic until selling the garage and buying a farm in the Town of Reseburg.  They sold the farm in 1958 and moved back to Thorp where he owned and operated his own radio and television repair business.  He retired in 1994 at he age of 85.  his wife, Anne, died on November 20, 1996.  John continued to live in Thorp until entering the Clark County Health Care Center in February of 2009.

He had many interests, but especially enjoyed tinkering in his shed, fixing and repairing just about anything, inventing and reading.

He will be dearly missed by his four daughters: Nancy (Delmar) Thwing of Jacksonville, FL, Alice (Richard) Strasser of Wausau, Karen Wisnewski of Stevens Point, and Jane Hendricks of Plover; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Giwojna of Stanley; one sister, Stella in California; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anne; one grandson; three brothers: Tony, Raymond and Francis; and sisters: Frances, Victoria and Eva.
