Hardrath, Harold  (09 NOV 1915-03 OCT 2009)

 

Harold Hardrath, 93, Owen, died on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the Colonial Center, Colby. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home, Owen. The Rev. Dr. Paul C. Hunsicker officiated. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, town of Hixon, with military honors being conducted. Grandchildren served as pallbearers.

 

Harold Hardrath was born on Nov. 9, 1915, in the town of Green Grove, to Herman and Elsa (nee Lange) Hardrath. He attended Elmwood School in the town of Green Grove and graduated from the eighth grade.

 

He worked as a cheesemaker in Melon, and for Harvey Mandel in Unity. He entered the Army during World War ll and was assigned to infantry operating the 155mm Howitzer. After his honorable discharge, he began dairy farming in the town of Green Grove. He married Dorthaleen Edwards in Colby, on Aug. 31, 1949. They continued to farm and raise their family. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards and dancing.

 

Survivors include his wife, Dorthaleen, Owen; his children, Luanne Schwarze, Unity, and Glen (LuAnn) Hardrath, Unity; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Howard Hardrath, Atlanta, and Halbert (Margie) Hardrath, Atlanta.
