ABBOTSFORD -- Elsie Bertha Bremer, 98, of Abbotsford, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the Golden LivingCenter in Abbotsford. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford. Rev. Dr. Paul C. Hunsicker Sr. will conduct her funeral service.

Visitation will be held at the church Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Abbotsford Public Cemetery.

Elsie was born Feb. 13, 1911, in the town of Mayville to John and Pauline (Schneider) Bremer. She graduated from St. Peter's Parochial School and Dorchester High School in 1928. After graduation she worked in Milwaukee as a nanny and housekeeper. At that time she also attended Vocational School returning after 15 years to care for her parents. She was employed locally for the following 12 years at Miller Bakery as a cake decorator. She also was employed for the U.S. Census Bureau for more than 20 years, covering Clark County.

Always having an artistic touch, she took up art in her late 40s, specializing in still life, scenery and dog portraits. Her paintings were exhibited throughout Wisconsin, winning many awards. She was proud to have been an exhibitor at New Visions Gallery at the Marshfield Clinic. She also was very involved as an original organizer and later a costume maker, sewing more than 100 costumes for the Abbotsford Christmas Parade.

After retirement, she traveled the world including the Holy Land, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Russia and Europe. Elsie had a flair for life and was self taught in history, religion and especially geography through her love of books.

Elsie is lovingly survived by one brother, John (Jean) Bremer; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her two sisters, Ann Neumann and Minnie Fenske; and one brother, Arthur Bremer.
