Smith, Mary Ann (17 SEP 1955)

A Sept. 17, 1955 wedding performed by the Rev. Arthur F. Kelly in St. Benedict’s Church in Fontana, united in marriage Miss Mary Ann Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence G. Smith of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), and Henry James Rokusek, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Fraser of Oak Park, Ill.

Attending the bride as maid of honor was Miss Gerladyne Hedler of Thorp, while Miss Harriet Schwoch of Watertown served as bridesmaid.

Mr. Rokusek named the bride’s brother, Arnold L. Smith of Thorp, as best man, and Glenn A. Schwoch attended him as groomsman.  Another friend, Lloyd A. Middleton Jr. of Oak Park, Ill., was the usher.

Carrying a white orchid on a prayer book tied with stephanotis, the bride wore a lace and tulle ballerina length gown, and a lace cloche with pearl and sequin trim to which was attached the imported illusion veil falling the full length of the dress.  A jeweled mandarin collar edged the neckline of the fitted bodice of Chantilly lace.  The sleeves were long and tapered, and the bouffant skirt of tulle bordered with lace stood out over net and satin.

The bridal attendants were gowned alike in emerald green crystalette over taffeta.  Their full crystalette skirts ended at ballerina length, while the bodices featured bateau necklines, and were extended below the waist, ending in a cuff.  Velvet flowers in matching colors fashioned their small hats completed with face veils.  Bronze and gold chrysanthemums were carried in basket arrangements.

Following the wedding, guests were received at the summer home of the bridegroom’s family on Lake Geneva, and the wedding luncheon was served at Williams Bay.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Rokusek will enroll at Stout State College, Menomonie, as graduate students during the coming academic year, and will make their home at 1220 E. Main St. in Menomonie.

The bride, a graduate of Thorp High School, holds a bachelor of science degree from Stout, class of 1954, and during the past year taught home economics at Stratford High School.  Mr. Rotusek also holds a B. E. Degree from Stout College, obtained in 1953.  He received his high school education at the Oak Park (Ill.) High School.
