Brown, Sydney (2 Jul 1835 - 28 Feb 1912) 
 

Sydney Brown died last Thursday after an illness of about two weeks duration.  Mr. Brown was born in St. Lawrence county, N.Y., on July 2, 1835.  In 1857 he was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Harlow and to this union six children were born.  Three years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Brown removed to Brown County, Wis.  At the opening of the war, Mr. Brown enlisted in the 3^rd Wis. Cavalry and served throughout the war.  He came back to Brown county and in 1876 he and his family moved to Cloud county, Kansas, in 1881 removing to Clark county and settling 2 miles east of Christie.  On Feb. 11, 1890, Mrs. Brown died, and in 1896 Mr. Brown was united in marriage to Maria L. Simons.  Twelve years ago Mr. and Mrs. Brown removed to a new home, this time taking up their home just south of Christie, where Mr. Brown rested from his long years of labor.  Deceased was survived his wife and five children, and three brothers and one sister.  The children are Mrs. Sarah Chase of Muline, Ore., Mrs. Alta Chase of Salem, Ore., Elmer of Portland, Ore., Albia of Salem, Ore., Mrs. Lillie Sischo of Salem, Ore. 
 

Mr. Brown was a fine man whose acquaintance it was a pleasure to have and whose kindly and cheery disposition reflected itself upon all those who came in contact with him.  He was a man of high integrity and held the confidence of all his friends.  Mr. Brown was buried last Sunday, services being held at the Christie church and interment made in the Christie cemetery.  His son, Elmer, and daughter, Mrs. Sarah Chase, were here at the time of the death of their father.
