Kunkel, Grete Laurene (Marriage - 6 July 1957)

Miss Grete Laurene Kunkel exchanged wedding vows with James Riel at a 3 o’clock service Saturday, July 6, in the Pine Valley Lutheran Church.  The Rev. Marvin Beninga performed the double ring ceremony before an altar decorated with lighted candles and baby mums. Baskets of gladioli completed the church decorations.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Otto Kunkel of La Crosse, and Mr. and Mrs. Raoul Riel of Iron Mountain, Mich.

The bride was given in marriage by her father.  For her wedding she wore a floor length dress of Chantilly lace and nylon net, with a full skirt of alternating ruffles of lace and tulle.  The bodice was fashioned with a Sabrina neckline, edged with rhinestones and pearls, the long sleeves coming to a point at the wrists.  Her veil of fingertip length was secured to a lace cap edged with flowers of pearls.  She carried a cascade bouquet of yellow roses.

Miss Mavis Jacobi of Milwaukee was her maid of honor.  The bridesmaids were Mrs. Donald Siebert of Menomonee Falls and Shirley Riel of Milwaukee both sisters of the groom.  Their dresses were colonial style nylon net over taffeta, the polka dot overskirts being caught up at intervals by satin bows.  Each carried a satin and lace fan covered with tiny white roses.

Dale Swanson of La Crosse, cousin of the bride, was the groom’s bestman. Groomsmen were Lionel Riel of Iron Mountain, Mich., the groom’s brother, and Donald Siebert, brother-in-law of the groom.  Ushers were Robert Quast and Alfred Kuenkel.

Wilfred Galstad sang "The Lord’s prayer," and "Oh Perfect Love."  Mrs. Kenneth Karnitz was organist.

A rehearsal luncheon was served at noon in the church dining room by the Ladies’ Aid.

A reception for 120 guests was held at the American Legion Hall at 5 o’clock.  The hall was decorated in white, yellow, green and orchid, with tiny bouquets of garden flowers and white candles on the table. The Rev. and Mrs. Beninga sang "Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow" as the table grace.

The bride is a graduate of Neillsville High School and La Crosse vocational school.  She is employed as a comptometer operator in the office of Milprint, Inc., Milwaukee. The groom is a graduate of Kingsford High School, Kingsford, Mich.  he is employed by Better Builder Supply Company.
