Bruss, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Golden - 23 December 1957)

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bruss was observed Sunday in the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran school auditorium.  One hundred twenty-five relatives gathered for the dinner and supper. The Rev. Alfred Schewe, pastor, conducted a brief wedding ceremony preceding the dinner.

The original wedding was on December 23, 1907, in the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Neillsville, with the late Rev. Herman Brandt officiating.  Then Emma Lipkie became the bride of Robert Bruss.  Mrs. Ida Seefeldt, Spencer, Mrs. Helen Jahr and Henry Lipkie of Neillsville, who attended the original wedding in 1907, were present.

The anniversary was planned by Mrs. Elmer A. (Edna) Georgas, their only child.  Yellow roses, yellow pompons, golden leaves and clusters of gold wedding bells decorated the tables.  Mrs. Bruss wore an orchid corsage, with attendants wearing corsages of yellow roses.  Mr. Bruss and Mr. Lipkie wore yellow roses in their coat lapels.

Robert Bruss was born October 24, 1880, in Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Bruss.  When he was six months of age he came with his family to America and located on a farm north of Spencer.  In 1903, he moved to Clark County, working as a cheese and buttermaker around Neillsville and Alma Center.

After the marriage the couple farmed in the Neillsville and Granton areas. They moved to Neillsville in 1921, and he worked at carpentry until 1942, when he was employed by the Neillsville Milk Products Company.  He worked until he retired in 1951 because of illness.

Mrs. Bruss was born in Levis Township, Clark County, July 28, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Lipkie.  She received her education in Levis Township schools and did domestic work in Neillsville until her marriage.
