James Frese, 50, Granite Falls, Washington, formerly of Withee, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 17, 2010. 
 

Funeral services will be held in Granite Falls.  A memorial service will be held in Owen at a later date. 
 

James Edward Frese was born June 9, 1959, the oldest son of Roger and Joan (Langiewicz) Frese.  He was a 1977 graduate of Owen-Withee High School where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams and active in FFA and Swing Choir.  Upon graduation from high school, Jim joined the U. S. Navy and served until 1981.  With his honorable discharge, he entered the Police Academy and started his police career as a dispatcher with the King County Sheriff Department in Washington. He was a member of the Seattle Police Department for the past 24 years as a police officer and then as a detective.  Jim was awarded the Officer of the Year in 2004.  He earned several awards throughout his career.  
 

Jim married the love of his life, Eva Travers, on June 4, 1983. 
 

Jim was an avid hunter, expert traditional bowman and rifleman.  He loved hunting whitetail in Wisconsin and Black tail deer in Washington.  He especially enjoyed hunting in Canada with his father, brother, sons and brother-in-law.  
 

Jim is survived by his wife, Eva, of Granite Falls; two sons: Jeremy (Brenda) Schultz of Neillsville and Ryan Frese of Granite Falls; two grandsons: Easten and Ashten; parents, Roger and Joan Frese of Withee; four sisters: Diana Frese of Neillsville, Christina (Wayne) Petranovich of Thorp, Lori Frese of Eau Claire, and Jolene (Justin) Witherall of Wellsbrille, Ohio; one brother, Roger "Chipper" (Anna) Frese, Jr. of New Bern, NC; and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. 
 

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Rose Frese; maternal grandparents, Alex and Eva Langiewicz; and brother-in-law, Darren Zoromski.
