Kelly, Walter (1907? - 10 JUL 1957)

Death met Chef Walter C. Kelly, proprietor of the New Oaks Night Club at Minnesota City, Minn., on July 10th, 1957.  He was 50 years of age.

Chef Kelly was involved in an automobile accident on the 10th of July, but apparently was not seriously injured and returned to his home a short time later.

After retiring he complained of a distress in his chest and Mrs. Kelly remained with him most of the night.  That morning she left his bedside for a few minutes to get him a glass of water, and when she returned he was dead.

Mr. Kelly was blinded by lights of an oncoming car on the curve.  Evidence at the scene of the accident showed that Kelly lost control of his automobile and it veered to the right snapping off 14 guard posts and a telephone pole before coming to a stop.  He was accompanied by his wife and another friend, both of whom escaped serious injury.

Chef Kelly’s fame was nationally known.  On the 20th of May 1928 he was united in marriage in a ceremony performed in Owen when he married the former Charlotte Fialkowski, a sister to Mrs. Anton Ciokiewicz, city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.).

Mrs. Kelly will continue to operate this famed eating spot of 600 person capacity under her management.
