Lindsay, Ralph E. (20 Aug 1861 - 15 Jul 1913)

Ralph E. Lindsay, a well known Davenport businessman, died at 5:30 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, Ill., following an operation for chronic appendicitis and intestinal adhesions.  He had been in failing health for a number of years.

Mr. Lindsay was born in Davenport, Aug. 20, 1861, and was educated in the public schools.  Early in life he engaged in the lumber business and was vice president of the Lindsay & Phelps Company.  For several years he was associated with others in the publication of the Davenport Morning Republican.  Until compelled by ill health to seek rest, he was actively interested in the work of the Y.M.C.A., and for several years was an officer in the association.

On Feb. 12, 1891, Mr. Lindsay was married to Miss Margaret Blair.  One son, Edwin Blair Lindsay, was born to them, and is now 15 years of age.  In addition to the wife and son, Mr. Lindsay is survived by his father, James E. Lindsay, and one brother, George F. Lindsay.  Mrs. Lindsay and her son, with other relatives, were with him at the time of his death.

The funeral will be held from the late residence, 224 Prospect Terrance, tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o’clock.  Dr. Donaldson, former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Lindsay was a member, assisted by the Rev. Dr. LeRoy M. Coffman, the present pastor, will officiate. - The Davenport Democrat and Leader
